COX FUNERAL HOME
BASTROP, LA.

Funeral services for Mr. William David Ogden, Jr. will be held Sunday, December 6, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Reverend Phil Smith will officiate the services. Interment with military honors will follow at Christ Church Cemetery of Bastrop under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 P.M. until time for services at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 6th, at Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop.

William David Ogden, Jr. was born on July 6, 1924 and was raised in the Mer Rouge, Louisiana area. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at the Oakwoods Home in Mer Rouge. Mr. Ogden is preceded in death by his wife Alene Russell Ogden; his parents, William David Ogden, Sr. and Carye Kirkpatrick Ogden; two brothers, Earle Ogden and Kirkpatrick Ogden; and two sisters, Lela Kirby Ogden Goyne and Betty Ogden Glaze.

Mr. Ogden started his own laundry and dry cleaning business in 1952, known today as Ogden Cleaners and Thurmanize Cleaners in Bastrop and Monroe, Louisiana.

David Ogden proudly served his country as a member of the 4th Marine Division, (Pharmacist Mate, 2nd Class-C Company, 1st Battalion, 24th Regiment) in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, earning two purple hearts and a Bronze Star. He was serving on Iwo Jima when the famous photo was taken of the American flag being raised. In 2009 Mr. Ogden was awarded the Louisiana Veteran's Honor Medal by Gov. Bobby Jindal.

Mr. Ogden and his late wife, Alene Russell Ogden, were loyal community volunteers and philanthropist. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bastrop where he served many years as a deacon. Mr. David was a member of the Bastrop Lions Club for over sixty-three years, serving on their board of directors and in several leadership capacities including President of the Club. Mr. Ogden also served as a past director of the Morehouse General Hospital Board, past president and director of the Louisiana Drycleaner's Association, and as a director and ambassador for the Southwest Drycleaner's Association for many years.

Mr. Ogden is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Morgan and John H. Morgan of California, son and daughter-in-law, Rusty Ogden and Vickie Ogden of Sherman, Texas, and son and daughter-in-law, Jim Ogden and Annette Ogden of Bastrop, Louisiana. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Meredith Morgan, John David Morgan (Veronica), Nolan Ogden (Erin), Katie Smith (Court), Susan Ogden (Karla), James Ogden, J.Ross Ogden (Macie), Anne-Marie Ogden, Meredith Munal (Deane) and Max Brownlee; and four great-grandchildren, Aiden Ogden, Russell Ogden, Sawyer Morgan, and Annie Ogden.

Serving as pallbearers are James Ogden, J.Ross Ogden, Nolan Ogden, Court Smith, and George Book.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. E.D. Baker, Flint Robertson, Boots Gladney, Dick Revels, and C.L. Givens.

The Ogden family would like to thank Dr. E.D. Baker for all of his loving support through the years. Also, many thanks to the staff of the Oakwoods Home in Mer Rouge.
