FARMINGTON - Hazel M. Vaughn, 81, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Sandy River Center for Healthcare in Farmington.

She was born in Peru, one of nine children of Elmer and Iva (Andrews) Child on March 5, 1934.

She attended Peru schools and lived in the Dixfield and Peru areas for her whole life, primarily on the Dickvale Road, Peru.

She married Richard E. Vaughn on March 3, 1956. He died February 10, 2011.

Hazel worked outside the home all of her life and was a hard worker. One of her first jobs was as a waitress at the Hi-Spot Restaurant. She was an Avon representative for a number of years, enjoying her visits to many area elderly ladies, all wanting to host her for morning coffee and muffins. She received her GED and later a nursing certificate. She worked at the Diamond Match Mill for many years until it closed. She then worked at LaVerdiere's until her retirement.

Unfortunately, Hazel had osteoporosis which resulted in her having many bone fractures that ultimately were her demise. Words of wisdom to all: Be aggressive in the health care of your loved ones; insist that the doctor listens to you and acts accordingly.

The final days of Hazel's life were spent at the Sandy River Center in Farmington where she had resided since April 2015 and had made many friends.

Survivors include her four children, Gary Vaughn and friend, Kathy, Kathy Hussey and husband Bill, Robert "Bo" Vaughn and wife Sue, Richard "Rick" Vaughn and wife, Sheryl; grandchildren, Gary Vaughn, Jr., Erik Vaughn, Tim Blais, Amanda (Vaughn) Thompson, Lisa (Blais) Gagnon, Tara (Roy) Belanger, Kori (Vaughn) McManus and Daniel Vaughn; as well as numerous great-grandchildren. Hazel is also survived by siblings, Avis Orino and Anna Hebert (two of the three Wit sisters - Dim Wit, Nim Wit and Half Wit); and a brother, Robert Child.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; and brothers, Ernest, Everett, Clarion, Lawrence and Howard.

You were undoubtedly enthusiastically greeted at the Pearly Gates by many , Mom. May your spirit soar. Give Dad a hug for us. We love you.
