Phyllis Jean Hunter, 81, of Benton, IL, formerly of Herrin, IL, passed away on December 1, 2015, at Helia Healthcare of Benton. She was born on October 7, 1934, to Walter and Zelma (Mundell) Gunter in Benton, IL. Phyllis retired from Olin Corporation. She was married to George Hunter, who precedes her in death. Phyllis is survived by her sister, Doris Jean Hobbs of Benton, IL; niece & nephew, Mark and Sheri Dyel of Benton, IL; and two great-nephews, Shane Dyel and Colin Reid Dyel. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hunter; and parents, Walter and Zelma Gunter. Visitation will be held Friday, December 4, 2015, 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, Benton, IL. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015, at 11:00 am at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory, Benton, IL, with the Reverend Harold Whitlock officiating. Burial will take place in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Memorials contributions may be made to the West City Church of God and will be accepted at the funeral home.
