William R. “Bill” Cornett, 86, died December 1, 2015, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born September 16, 1929, in Cherryvale, to John “J.A.” and Gladys (Truster) Cornett.

Bill graduated from Burrton High School in 1949. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952 and served as a corporal. After the Army, he worked as an oilfield production supervisor. Bill enjoyed gardening and fishing and was a former member of Masonic Lodge and Consistory. He attended Burrton United Methodist Church.

On July 30, 1949, he married Charlene Collins in Burrton. They celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Bill is survived by: his wife, Charlene of the home; brothers, Bob Cornett and wife Bette of Muskogee, OK, Tom Cornett and wife Debbie of Independence, Mike Cornett and wife Sharon of Texas City, TX; sister, Carolyn Raetz of Cherryvale; sisters-in-law, Marj Pearce and husband J.D. of Burrton, Dee Cornett of Topeka; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack and Rex Cornett; and sisters, Betty Farrell and Joan Collins.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Burrton United Methodist Church, 114 W. Center St., Burrton, with Pastor Kim Benson officiating. Burial will follow in Burrton Cemetery with military graveside honors being conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
