Mary Novatnak, Banks Twp. Committeewoman, Died Sat. Mary Novatnak, of 69 Main St., Coxeville, Beaver Meadows, a guest at Weatherwood, died Saturday at Hazleton General Hospital. Born in Hazle Brook, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Rentko) Yackshaw and resided most of her life in Coxeville. Before retiring she operated a grocery store in the Coxeville area. She was a member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Slovak Church, Hazleton, and its confraternity of Christian Mothers and Third Order of St. Francis societies. She was also a member of the All-American Senior Citizens Club in which she served as secretary for 17 years. She was a Banks township democratic committeewoman the past 40 years and was secretary to the Banks Township supervisors the past 26 years.
Preceding her in death were her husband, George, in 1943; brothers, John and Stephen, and a daughter, Dorothy. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Thomas J. (Adrienne) Hydock, Coxeville; sons, George F. "Corky", Beaver Meadows; and Paul James, Allentown; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Frank (Verna) Lawrence, West Hazleton.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 am from the John J. Pusti Funreal Home, 480 W. Broad St., Hazleton. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 am in Holy Trinity Church, followed by interment in the parish cemetery. Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A prayer service will be held at 8 this evening.
