Son of James Albert Alexander and Sarah M. Sullivan, he was single. He died as the result of an accident when a passenger train struck him while he was sitting on the railroad track, apparently asleep.
Although the 1900 census for Lawrence County shows "Marion W." as a son of James Albert Alexander and Sarah Sullivan, giving a birth date of June 1883, his death certificate, application for veteran's headstone and his mother's death certificate (where he was the informant) all list his name as Wash N. Alexander as does his tombstone inscription.
