William Mack West, 31, Dallas City, IL., passed away at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 1956, at Burlington Hospital, Burlington, IA. from an injury while hunting near Burnside, Iowa, Thursday afternoon January 19, he had surgery on January 22, but the internal damage was too severe to help him live, the gunshot destroyed his pancreas. At the time he was hunting with his brother Charles West and father-in-law James Rhea. He was first taken to Mary Davier Hospital in LaHarpe, IL. then transferred to The Burlington Hospital, Burlington, IA., where he passed away.

Mack was born on March 24, 1924, in Briar Creek, MO. The 3rd son of William Melton and Minnie Hurt West.

Mack was educated in Ripley Co. MO. And was a veteran of World War II.

He married Betsy Ann Rhea on August 25, 1952, in Dallas City, IL., she survives. He is also survived by his two children Joseph Mack West and Joan Lucille West and a stepson Harold Rhea, his parents, three sisters, and six brothers, Mildred (Lester) Davis, Alexis, IL., Virginia (William) Smith, Astoria, OR., Irene (Ross) Curtis, Abingdon, IL., James (Blanche) West, Lawn Ridge, IL., Edward (Betty) West, Abingdon, IL., George (Roberta) West, Galesburg, IL. Chester (Donna) West, Abingdon, IL., Charles (Marilyn) West, Dallas City, IL., and Gene (Carol) West, Greenville, S.C., and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mack was preceded in death by two sisters, Docia Edna West and Marie Joyce West.

Mack was first taken to the Martin Funeral Home, and on Wednesday morning was taken to Huggins Funeral Home in Abingdon, IL., where his funeral was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 1956. Burial will be at Abingdon Cemetery in Abingdon, Illinois.
