Funeral services for Joe D. Thornton, age 80, of Urania, will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 4, 2015 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Karl Wayne Doughty and Bro. Buddy Willis officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Urania. Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
Joe entered into Eternal Rest Tuesday, December 1, 2015 in his home in Urania. Joe was born to the union of Willie and Mable Thornton on September 17, 1935 in Urania. He was preceded in death by his parents: Willie and Mable Thornton; sister: Francille Schultz; brothers: Billy Thornton, Bobby Thornton, and Norman Thornton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years: Carrie Ruth Spence Thornton; brothers: W.M. Thornton, Buddy Thornton and his wife Diana; Randy Thornton and his wife Carolyn; sister-in-law: Judy Merle Thornton; and host of nieces, nephews, and Carrie's family.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
