RAPID CITY | Nancy Lee DeVries, 59, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, surrounded by loved ones in her home ending her courageous fight against brain cancer.

Nancy was born Dec. 9, 1955, to Elmer and Darlene (Freimark) Ochsner and grew up on the family farm in Herreid, SD. She graduated from nursing school in 1977 and she loved being a nurse. Nancy was the greatest example of Christ-like selfless service. She could tell endless stories from her years of working at the hospital. Her coworkers were always such a fun and supportive work family. Anyone who came in contact with her can attest to her positive attitude and willingness to help those around her. She had the ability to see kindness and offer love both in the workplace and during everyday interactions.

Nancy lovingly encouraged, supported, and truly lived to make her family happy. She was the best mom, a caring wife, a goofy “cussin”, and an incredible friend. She had an infectious energy and excitement for life that could spread to anyone — whether it was a San Antonio Spurs game, a birthday party, or a vacation, she lived life and every experience to the fullest. Her gentle, joyful spirit will always be remembered.

She is survived by her husband, Kerry; three daughters, Kristen Bilka of Chicago, IL, Kimberly Bilka of Park City, UT, Kalli DeVries of Rapid City; her mother, Darlene Ochsner of Rapid City; siblings, Bob (Sue) Ochsner of Billings, MT, Tom (Bonnie) Ochsner of Blanco, TX, and Kristi Ochsner of Rapid City; and numerous extended family and special friends. Nancy is preceded in death by her father, Elmer Ochsner.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Kirk Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec 1, at Rimrock Church. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. CDT Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Friedens Reformed Church Cemetery in Herreid, SD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions will be used for a Nursing Scholarship in Nancy’s name.
