General Hamilton Pope (1817/24-94) was the son of Worden, II (1776-1838) and Elizabeth Taylor Thruston Pope (1785-1838), of Louisville. He became an eminent lawyer of the Louisville Bar of which he was president in 1886. He was twice elected to the Kentucky House, 1845, 1848, and subsequently to the Senate, 1850-51. At the breaking out of the Civil War he was placed in charge of the State Guard at Louisville with the rank of brigadier general and held that position until the troops were organized into the government service. He married in 1855, Mrs. Henrietta Booker Prather (c1829-95), daughter of Maj. William B. Booker who was a member of the Kentucky Legislature, 1818-19, 1822-28, 31, 1855-57, from Washington County. She was a niece of Mrs. Walton, the third wife of Governor John Pope. A son was James Pope (or Prather) (c1848-) who apparently died young. It is not known where Gen. Pope and his wife are buried.
