Glad A. Sudderth, age 95, of Buford, GA passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Ann Buice Sudderth; parents, Erskine and Georgia Sudderth; brothers, James, Grady, Leon, Bill, Kenneth, and Joel Sudderth; brother-in-law, Milton Pitts.
Mr. Sudderth was born on September 23, 1922 in Buford, GA. He was a 1942 graduate of Sugar Hill School, Sugar Hill, GA. Mr. Sudderth was a star basketball player and was voted Most Likely to Succeed.
He received a four-year college scholarship in agriculture but he was not able to attend due to the start of World War II. Mr. Sudderth was a WWII Army Air Force veteran and served in the Philippines. He pursued a career in business and agriculture, and was a former owner of a furniture store in Cumming, GA and Buford, GA.
Mr. Sudderth was a successful entrepreneur in life later. He was former owner of Twin Springs Egg Farm. He bought and sold real estate.
Mr. Sudderth enjoyed his farming – growing livestock and vegetables. He received over one thousand ribbons from Gwinnett Fair Association for his prize vegetables and honey. He was a member of Farm Bureau and supported the agriculture and sports programs at North Gwinnett High School for a number of years.
Mr. Sudderth was a Mason member of LaFayette Lodge No. 44 F.A.& M., and he was a Shriner. He was former mayor pro tem and former councilman in Cumming, GA. He was a former director of the Bank of Cumming.
Mr. Sudderth was a member of the Peoples Bank Travel Club in Buford and he and his wife Ann would travel on many trips in the U.S. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Sugar Hill where he served on the Deacon Board and Sunday School. He never missed Sunday school for forty-five years.
Also, he was chairman of the Sugar Hill Cemetery Committee for over fifty years. Mr. Sudderth was co-chairman of the Building Committee of Sugar Hill Baptist Church when the new church was built on Broad St. in Sugar Hill, GA. He was a member of the Senior Adult Men"s Sunday School class with teacher Tom Moreland.
Mr. Sudderth was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother and he loved his friends very much. The family wishes to " thank all his caregivers who took wonderful care of Glad during his illness." The funeral service will be held Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sugar Hill Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Charles Pirkle and Rev.
Chuck Allen officiating, and the eulogy given by Sandy Sansing. Interment will be in the Sugar Hill Cemetery, Sugar Hill, GA with Rev. Ron Davidson officiating the graveside service.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
