Mr. Roy Lee Bishop, age 79, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015. He was born January 31, 1936 in Freeport, Florida to James and Ola Brown Bishop. Mr. Bishop was a lifelong resident of Walton County. He was a veteran of the armed forces serving his country in the United States Navy. He worked as a Tug Boat Captain for 36 years before retiring, having received many awards for his acts of heroism. He enjoyed spending time with mentoring children and sharing his wisdom with them. He was very active in the preservation of the Choctawhatchee River. Mr. Bishop is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Linda Gail Peak Bishop; one son Sidney Lee Bishop; three brothers Buddy Bishop, James Bishop, and Alvin Bishop, and one sister Betty Williams. Mr. Bishop is survived by his one son Johnny Bishop and wife April of Ponce De Leon, Florida; four daughters Charmagne Fraser and husband Jim of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Sandra Collinsworth and husband Joey of Freeport, Florida, Angie Pettis and husband Jerry of Andalusia, Alabama and Barbie Bourland and husband Jim of Naples, Florida; two sisters Virginia Matthews and husband Tony of DeFuniak Springs, Florida and Ruby Williams and husband Gordon of Freeport, Florida; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Visitation services will be held 6:00~8:00 PM, Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home; 150 East Highway 20, Freeport, Florida 32439. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, December 4, 2015, at Heritage Church in Freeport, 922 County Highway 83A, Freeport, Florida with Reverend Jeff Carlton officiating. Pallbearers will be Arthur Bishop, Brad Bishop, Brandon Herring, Kyle Collinsworth, Landon Bourland and Joseph Pettis. Honorary pallbearer will be Dillian Herring. Floral arrangements are being accepted. Burial will follow in the Black Creek Cemetery.
