He was born in Tallahassee, FL, on June 30, 1948 to Milborn and Renee Akins, now deceased. He is survived by his wife Deborah (Debbie) Roberts Akins, his daughter Lennon Brooke Akins, his son Michael Anthony Akins Jr, daughter-in-law Christina Leigh Akins, two grandchildren Parker Thomas and Brynn Olivia Akins, mother-in-law Dorothy (Dot) Roberts, and sister-in-law Dee Dee Pecora.
After graduating from Leon High School in 1966, Mike joined the Coast Guard Reserves. He completed his education from Florida State University with a B.S. in Finance. Mike began his career in state government with the Governor's Office and spent most of his remaining 35 years of service as a Sr. Budget Analyst in the Senate.
Mike was an avid fisherman, enjoyed reading books and newspapers, but more than anything else, he loved spending time with his family. Throughout Michael and Lennon's lives, Mike encouraged and supported their many activities and interests. He devoted his world to his family and cherished every minute of it. His most recent joy came from his two precious grandchildren.
We were so fortunate to have been loved by the greatest husband, daddy and "Poppa" who ever was. The service will be at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 2, at 10:30 am. Memorial contributions in Mike's honor may be made to Big Bend Hospice. Susie Mozolic of Bevis Funeral Home is assisting the family with their arrangements.
