The State of Oklahoma executed Johnny Dale Black for the 4 Jan 1998 murder of Billy A. "Bill" Pogue. His accomplices were his brothers Jesse and Jimmy Black, Cal Eugene Shankles, and Robert William Seale, all of whom received prison sentences.

Johnny Black also murdered Cecil Lynn Martin on 13 Dec 1983 in Carter County, Oklahoma. He was convicted of manslaughter on 28 Dec 1984 and was sentenced to 15 years. He was released in 1993.

Johnny Black passed on to be with the Lord on Dec. 17, 2013, in McAlester OK.

Services are being held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20 at Grace Chapel on Cherokee Ave. in Duncan OK. Johnny will be laid to rest at Fairlawn Cemetery in Comanche OK. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Grace Chapel in Duncan on from 5-7 p.m. today.

Johnny was born on Sept. 27, 1965, in Bakersfield, California, to Jerry Black and Janice Jackson. He resided in Bakersfield CA and Ringling, Duncan, and Norman OK alternately throughout his life, but lived for 15 years in McAlester [in the Oklahoma State {maximum security} Penitentiary].

Johnny loved working on cars and motorcycles and had a great affinity for art, but most of all Johnny loved his family and God.

Johnny is survived by his mother Janice Jackson of Duncan; brothers Jimmy Black and fiancée Miranda Montgomery of Duncan, Jesse and wife Rebekah Black of Comanche, amd J.D. Black and fiancée Cathy Bess of Duncan; grandmother Doin Morgan of Ringling; sisters Cheri Hockersmith of Marietta OK, Tracy Bornna of Decatur TX, and Karen McGill of Oklahoma City; step-mothers Latrice Rogers of Lone Grove OK and Sharon Allison of Marietta; children Jason Black of McAlester, Josh Hendrix and wife Kenna of Norman, and Trinh Hendrix of Norman. Johnny had a lot of nieces of nephews and seven grandchildren of Norman.

He was preceded in death by his father Jerry Black of Ringling, grandfathers Richard Morgan and Johnny Black of Ringling, step-father Floyd Jackson of Comanche and grandparents of Bakersfield CA.

Pallbearers will be Dylan Stewart, Jesse Black, Jeremy Black, Jason Black, Josh Hendrix, and Trihn Hendrix.
