Obituary
The Capital Gazette - September 20, 2015

Rhoda Dorothy Hunter of Silver Spring MD died on July 5, 2015 while under Hospice of the Chesapeake care at the Crofton Care and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Plymouth, England on May 9, 1931, daughter of Charles and Florence Burley.

After raising her two sons and one daughter, she returned to work as a budget analyst for NOAA in the Department of Commerce. Rhoda was the heart of the family.

Her laughter was infectious and constant. She hosted countless grandchildren "sleep-overs", birthday celebrations and holiday festivities. She was proud of her English heritage and entertained the family with stories about the war and her friends. There wouldn't be a birthday party for anyone in the family without her famous "Cornish pasties". She is also well known for distributing her delicious Christmas cookies her friends, workmates and neighbors. They would be disappointed if they were not brought to parties and visits. She brought her love for gardening over from England and loved "playing about in the dirt" and having a colorful garden.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Peerce Hunter, III and her eldest son, David Charles Casey.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Geoffrey and Angela Casey of Annapolis, daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Perry Hampton of Long Beach. CA, and daughter-in-law, Nancy Newman of Baltimore, MD. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Jesse Newman Casey, Kathryn Casey, Kimberly Casey Allsopp, Melissa Hampton, Spencer Newman Casey, and Scott Hampton who loved her so much.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 24th (10:00) at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church at 611 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd, Severna Park, MD 21146. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to BRIDGE, Inc., 3200 Garrison Blvd, Baltimore, MD 21216.
