Death Claims Pioneer Doctor of Mine Area KELLOGG, Idaho Dr. Tracy R. Mason, 87, pioneer doctor, mayor and legislator of Wardner and Kellogg, died yesterday at a local hospital. Dr. Mason was born Dec. 24, 1874 at Neoga, Ill. He graduated from the American Medical College, St. Louis, Mo. and came to Wardner in 1898. He was Wardner's health officer in 1899 and county coroner in 1900. In 1904 he was married io Katherine Goetz who died in 1951. Dr. Mason had the distinction of having one of the first cars in Wardner, an Overland, and it was a big day in that historic mining camp when the Overland chugged up Wardner hill with 'residents lining the streets to watch Its progress and betting whether or not it would make the grade. The pioneer doctor moved his practice from Wardner to Kellogg in 1912. After serving on the city council for 4 years he was elected mayor in 1917 and served until 1926. He served as physician and surgeon on the staff of Wardner Hospital for many years. In 1918, Dr. Mason was elected Democratic senator from Shoshone County and then served again in the state senate in 1937 and 1941. Survivors include a daughter, Madelyn Snodgrass, Coeur d'Alene; two grandchildren, a nephew, and a niece.. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in McGlade Chapel. The Rev. Everett Groves will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Dr. Tracy R. Mason married Katherine Goetz on October 19, 1904.
