Burnell "Burr" Owens (June 30, 1941 - November 27, 2015)
Burnell ”Burr” Owens, age 74, of Sparta, IL, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 4:42 p.m. in his home. Burr was born on June 30, 1941 in Tilden, IL, a son to Otto and Emma (Ackroyd) Owens. On March 10, 1969, he married Jacqueline Gile in Canton, IL and she preceded him in death on August 28, 2009. He then married Donna Lou Cavaness On April 21, 2012 in Tilden, IL and she survives. Burr was of the protestant faith and was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He retired from Weigmann’s in Freeburg as a welder after many years and had also worked at Consol Burning Star Mine, Continental Fabricators, St. Louis, MO, drove a truck and worked in sales. Burr was an active member of the Sparta, Eagles and had also served as past president as well as an officer. He loved fishing and playing pool and was known to make the best fried fish. Survivors include his wife, Donna Owens of Sparta, IL; one brother, Clifford (Sally) Owens of Marissa, IL; two sisters, Lois (Bill) Beckley of Tilden, IL and Carol Ann (Larry) Dornin of Doniphan, MO; one step-daughter, Laura (Steve) Schandl of DuQuoin, IL; four step-grandchildren, Slade West, Ella West, Bre Schandl and Linkin Schandl; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jacqueline Owens and one sister, Sharon K. Anderson. A memorial service will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Hackman officiating. Interment will be in Tilden City Cemetery, Tilden, IL. Military rites will be provided by Coulterville V.F.W. Post #6865. Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Coulterville, IL on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
