U.S. Congressman. He was a newspaper reporter in Washington, D.C. (1905-18), graduated from George Washington University, in 1922 and served as secretary to Congressman Walter R. Stiness (1918-22). Returning to Rhode Island, he engaged as an automobile dealer and was a member of the Rhode Island State House of Representatives (1928-36). In 1939, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-sixth Congress, serving until 1941. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was a member of the Republican National Committee (1941-44) and resumed the automobile business until his death.
