Police have identified the man found shot to death Tuesday in a Vancouver coin shop as Bentley Christopher Brookes, 58, of Camas, who managed the business.

Kim Kapp, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman, said Brookes' body was found inside the AJPM Pacific Bullion Precious Metals shop, 701 Main St., after a nearby business owner called emergency dispatchers at 11:50 a.m.

Jeff Lanford, who owns the Lucky Loan Pawn Shop across the street, said a man walked up to Pacific Bullion, saw a body, then ran to Lanford's store and told him to call 911. However, Lanford told The Oregonian/OregonLive that he did not see or hear anything connected with the man's death.

A subsequent autopsy by the Clark County Medical Examiner's Office determined Brookes died of a gunshot wound. The Regional Major Crimes team is investigating the slaying.

According to his LinkedIn page, Brookes worked as manager for AJPM Pacific Bullion, which opened at its current location in the Centurion Building last year. The business specializes in rare coins, precious metals and gems.

Brookes also served as vice president of North American marketing for Jewelry Design House International Inc. and was chief financial officer for Pacific Jewelers. He owned and operated 360 Consulting.

He previously operated his own company, Bentley's Jewelry, and worked for Fred Meyer Jewelers.

He graduated from Frankfurt American High School and attended Clark College. He also studied accounting at Western Business College. He ran unsuccessfully for Vancouver City Council in 1995 and formerly was active in Buy Local Clark County.
