∼KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- Lily Whitsett, 86, died Thursday (June 15, 2000) in Klamath Falls, Ore.
She was born Dec. 6, 1913, in rural Harvey County to Frank and Helena (Reimer) Schmidt. She married Melbourne Whitsett in December 1943 at Tabor Mennonite Church in Newton. He preceded her in death Aug. 2, 1971.
She was a 1932 graduate of Walton High School. She attended Bethel College and received a bachelor of arts degree from The University of Kansas. She was a teacher in a one-room school at Happy Hollow near Moundridge. She also taught in Kansas City, Wichita and Jefferson County in Golden, Colo.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Whitsett of Missoula, Mont., and Coralee Whitsett of Klamath Falls, Ore.; one brother, Alvin Schmidt of Walton; three sisters, Velma Claassen of Newton, Olga Conway of Tucson, Ariz., and Leona Griffith of Walton; and three grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Carol Jeanne Whitsett; and one grandson, Travis Ramon Valazquez.
Memorial services was Wednesday at Kidron Bethel Village Menno Hall in North Newton.
Memorials have been established with Homecare Hospice.
