Arlene was born Nov. 30, 1920, in Seneca County, to Herman Henry and Ceola (Henry) Oswald. She was married for 73 years to Robert Chapman, whom she married in Falmouth, Ky., July 3, 1938, and he survives in Green Springs.
Arlene is survived by her son, Robert (Linda) Chapman of Fremont; a son-in-law, Steve Robinett of Burgoon; five grandchildren, Rex Robinett, Mitchell Robinett, Jolene (Jude) Meyers, Bryan (Dawn) Chapman and Ryan Chapman; and three great-grandchildren, Marcus, Zachary and Ava.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, George Oswald; brother, Gene Oswald; two sisters, Beatrice Simpson and Muriel Newman; and her daughter, Diana Robinett, who died Feb. 16, 2012.
Arlene was a homemaker and a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Bettsville. Arlene also was a member of Green Springs Eastern Stars and a charter member of Bettsville American Legion Auxiliary. Arlene was a 1938 graduate of Bettsville High School.
Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2012, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory in Bettsville, with Pastor Gary Adams officiating. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services Friday at Pleasant Union Cemetery.
