Gregory Ford, 48, transitioned early Thursday morning, November 26, 2015, from his earthly home to his heavenly home. He was the husband of Rev. Tramona (Smith) Ford.
Gregory was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on August 5, 1967, to Lenel Moody and Martha Dowling Ford. However Greg was raised by his mother and father, Frankie Lee Ford, Sr.
Gregory was educated through the York City School system and was a William Penn Sr. High School graduate Class of 1985. After graduation, Gregory attended Culinary Arts School in Washington, D.C. All those who knew him knew that he had a passion for cooking and catering. During Gregory's years of employment he worked for Starbucks Coffee, Memorial Hospital, and he enjoyed catering events. In addition to cooking, Gregory loved gardening, reading, and worshipping God. Gregory was taught to love God as a child at Friendship Baptist Church, York, and he currently attended Family Life Ministries, Intl., York, where he enjoyed worshipping, singing, fellowshipping, and telling others about how good his God was. Gregory also encouraged the youth about getting the best education possible and he loved more than anything spending time with his family and friends.
Gregory leaves to cherish his memory his loving and supportive wife, Tramona; his mother, Martha; two daughters, Jada Ford and Shennelle Smaw; two sons, Steven Smaw and Trevor Ford; a sister, Sharon Moody; three brothers, Stanley Ford, Aaron Moody, and Anthony Moody; godchildren, Shanoy Moody, Shaniya Green, Jaquan Green, Khalil Thompson, Marcus Johnson, and Ciara Rossum; three best friends, Wayne Sampson, Rev. Nate Pritchard, and Eric Harris; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Frankie; three brothers, Frankie Lee Ford, Jr., Christopher Moody, and Warren Moody; grandfather, Nathaniel Washington; grandmother, Olive Washington; and several aunts and uncles.
Viewings are scheduled for Tuesday evening, December 1, 2015, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, December 2, 2015, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Fairview FGMB Church, 465 S. Pine St., York 17401. A Celebration of Life Service will follow on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with his pastors, Dr. Wendell and Dr. Juanita Burden, officiating and Dr. Robert Jamison giving the eulogy. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery, York.
