Rosemary Holland was born at Peoria, Illinois, on February 13, 1926, the daughter of Mark Real and Mae Harney. She received her education at St. John's School in Bradford, Illinois, and St. Mary's Academy in Nauvoo, Illinois. After high school she completed a training course for nurses at St. Vincent's hospital in Chicago. She then worked for a time as a pediatric nurse in Peoria.

She was married to Gerald P. Holland at Bradford on December 1, 1951. They spent their married lives farming near Bradford.

Rosemary died at Tucson, Arizona, on New Year's Eve 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 2001, her parents and her brother Robert. She was survived by a son, three daughters, seven grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters.
