"Sarge" was born in Edgewood, Iowa. He retired from the United States Army following twenty-one years of service which included tours of duty in the Viet Nam Conflict and throughout the world. Following that, he was employed by the PECO Corporation and Burns Security.
He was first married to Donna Holtz who passed away in 1994. He later married Paula Buffington in 2004. He was a member of the Walcott American Legion and an avid bingo player who enjoyed westerns-both movies and books.
Survivors include his wife, Paula; children Teresa Hammond and Donathan "Donnie" Hammond; a brother, George Hoover and two sisters; three sisters-in-law, Marietta Peters, Barb Holtz and D.K. Hoover and a brother-in-law, Eldon Peters along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Billie Hoover and Leroy Hammond and several sisters.
