Resident of Reno Rosalind Jackson of Avalon, Catalina Island, California and Reno, Nevada died on December 12, 2008 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada. Rosalind's death was sudden and unexpected; the first sign of illness came on Thanksgiving Day, her favorite family holiday, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor on December 4 and her entire family was with her from the diagnosis until she died.
Rosalind was born in Sacramento, California and spent her childhood and young adult life there. She met her future husband, William Stephen Jackson, at California State University, Sacramento. Rosalind began her lifelong teaching career in 1970 upon graduation from California State University at Sacramento with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Several years later she earned a Master of Education from the University of Alaska and continued advanced education studies throughout her life. During her teaching career Rosalind taught fifth through eighth grade students from Gladys Wood Elementary School in Anchorage, Alaska; Stone Valley Middle School in Alamo, California; Animus School in Farmington, New Mexico and Avalon School on Santa Catalina Island, California. Rosalind loved her students and colleagues dearly; an emotion that was liberally returned to her.
Rosalind is survived by her husband Steve, children Roger, Stephen II, Alexander, Juliette, daughters-in-law Krysta Hodgins Jackson and Lisa Groszek Jackson, brother Raymond Benetti, sister-in-law Mona Benetti, brother-in-law Martin Jackson, nephew and niece Keri and Jarryd Jackson, sister-in-law Suzanne Shimek, brother-in-law Mark Hill, nieces Amy Shimek and Abby Shimek Wichmann and mother-in-law Thelma Jackson.
