Piacenza born Monsignor Antonino Arata was ordained priest on June 9, 1906 and was appointed by Pope Pius XI, Apostolic Nuncio in Latvia and Estonia on July 12, 1935, receiving his episcopal consecration on August 11 that year from Cardinal Eugenio Pacelli, assisted by Archbishops Francesco Borgongini Duca and Giuseppe Pizzardo. Passing away in Grottaferrata at 64 years of age on August 25, 1948, he was temporarily buried at Piacenza's Cemetery until a definitive tomb was finished at the Basilica of Sant'Antonino, to which he was transferred on May 15, 1952. One of his students, who would rise to become a cardinal, Luigi Poggi (1917 - 2010), lies buried in accordance with his wishes, next to Monsignor Arata.
