COLUMBUS – Marguerite Atkins Brown, 84, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. She was born April 7, 1919, to Samuel Grover and Lola Ovella Smith Atkins in Lamar County, Ala. She lived in Aberdeen for many years before moving to Columbus. She worked at Mississippi University for Women for many years. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church in Columbus and a former member of Aberdeen First Baptist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen with Bro. David Westmoreland and Bro. R.D. Cline officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Rest Cemetery.

Survivors include a sister, Adine Pennington and husband, Robert, of Millport, Ala.; a brother, Sam Atkins and wife, Lavae, of Great Falls, Mt.; a sister-in-law, Juanita Atkins of Columbus; a stepdaughter, Carol Newell and husband, Charlie, of Columbus; a stepson, Billy Brown and wife, Bonnie, of Gardner, Kan.; six grandchildren, Susan Johnson, Nancy Crossley, Chuck Newell, Beth Layman, Carrie Selland and Jimmy Brown; several great-grandchildren; three nieces, Judy Woolbright, Linda Moore and Reta Burchfield; a nephew, James Atkins Jr.; several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Thomas Brown; and six brothers, Hamp Fields, James Floyd Atkins, Smith Atkins, Billy Atkins, Bobby Atkins and Doyle Atkins.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Walter Cosby, Dr. John Whitecar and Dr. Robert Jones.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time today at the funeral home.
