Fred Helms, 92, of Bloomfield, passed away Wednesday August 16, 2006 at 4:15 p.m. at Lyons Health and Living Center. Born August 10, 1914 in Greene County, he was the son of Lewis and Laura (Hunter) Helms. He was a farmer and attended Pleasant Ridge Church in Bloomfield. Survivors include: his wife, Bertha Marissa (Blaker) Helms of Bloomfield; six children, Bobby Helms of Switz City, Richard Helms of Bloomington, Jarrel Helms of Bloomfield, Gayle Gedrich of Annandale, Virginia, Freeda Hudson of Solsberry, and Joy Richardson of Bloomington; one brother, Otis Helms of Bloomfield; 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 7 great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, McKinley, Harvey, Homer, Lester, Carl, and Ellsworth Helms. Two sisters, Ella Jane Bland and Fern VanDeventer, and one grandson, Eric Helms. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 18, 2006 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with Rev. Eugene Helms officiating. Burial will be in Hash cemetery in rural Bloomfield.
