Harold Henry Merriam was born in Tara on September 19, 1911.
He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 6, 1931. He became a Flight Lieutenant and served during World War II in Camp Borden, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver, Ucluelet, Vancouver Island, Ottawa, Montreal, Aylmer, Toronto, Moncton and Downsview where he retired.
He was discharged on April 30, 1958. He moved to Southampton, Ontario and joined the Southampton Branch 155 of The Royal Canadian Legion where he was a member for thirty years.
