Charles was born May 19, 1930, in Stratford, Okla. He moved to Dumas as a small child and lived there until 1947 when he moved to Stratford. There he met and married Virginia, his wife for 67 years. In 1956, he moved to Fort Worth where he worked at Convair before spending 30 years working for the U.S. Postal Service. After starting his career with the post office as a letter carrier, Charles held many management positions, including finance director, director of mail processing and assistant postmaster. After retiring from the post office, he started a second career as a commercial electrician. When not working, Charles enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, gardening, listening to gospel music and spending time with his family.
Survivors: Wife, Virginia Slaten; children, Gwen Gordon, Paula Hancock and husband, Steve, Charles Kent Slaten and wife, Janet; grandchildren, Geremy Gordon, Kara Whitington, Derek Gordon, Justin Hancock, Courtney Sells and Colton Slaten; and seven great-grandchildren.
