Orland Doyle Patchell was born in Southampton, Ontario on June 26, 1919. He was raised in Amabel Township and later farmed in Arran Township. He enlisted in the Army on June 20, 1942, and served with the Royal Canadian Corps in Canada during World War II. He had the rank of Sergeant. Orland was discharged on April 10, 1946.


He married Bernice Belfield on April 19, 1944, while training in troops in Amherst, Nova Scotia and had eight children. Orland was an energetic member of Gay Lea and was a Director. He was also a member of the Agricultural Society and the Tara Legion Branch 383.


Orland was killed while on vacation in Texas during an armed robbery on January 28, 1984. He is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery in Tara.
