From AustralianRoyalty.net.au:

William was tried at Assizes at Lincoln on 9 July 1785 "...for picking the pocket of John Brown of a silver watch, at Horncastle...". He was sentenced to be transported for seven years and arrived in the colony aboard the ship 'Alexander' at Sydney Cove 26 January 1788.

On 1 June 1788 William Douglas married Mary Groves. Mary died in 1796 (probably in child birth). The only daughter of this relationship is Elizabeth Douglas (1796-1877) who married Daniel Jurd 28th September 1812.

In 1822 William Douglas was recorded as living with Eleanor Carthorne who had arrived as a convict aboard the ship 'Canada' in 1810.
