MUNCIE--Ione Butler Smith, 89, died Thursday morning at Ball Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Flint, Mich., the daughter of Byron Omer and Hazel Lucille Rivette Butler, and graduated from high school there. Mrs. Smith moved to Muncie in 1934 and was formerly employed at Ball Stores, Bake Rite Bakery and the Delaware County Clerk's office.
She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, Muncie Law Wives, and was a volunteer at Ball Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are her son, Gregory B. Smith (wife: Denise), Muncie; two grandchildren; her sister, Arlone McKenzie, Destin, Fla.; her sister-in-law, Eleanor Smith, Muncie; and four nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill L. Smith, to whom she had been married 65 years, who died in 1999.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in The Meeks Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Charlotte Overmyer will officiate. Entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Mausoleum. Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday.
