Michael Merritt, 66, passed away after a brief illness in the Gainesville Veteran’s Hospital on Monday November 23, 2015. He was born in Jacksonville on June 29, 1949 to Robert Merritt and Ida Pinner Merritt. Michael was a graduate of Andrew Jackson High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served honorably during Vietnam. He was retired from Mayport Naval Station after over 25 years.

Michael’s favorite relaxation was when he was fishing, but above all he enjoyed helping and doing for others be it family or friends. Michael had an extremely large and loving heart. He was a member of Kernan Blvd. Baptist Church.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Eugenia “Genie” Dorman Merritt; step-father, Marion Stebbins; son, William Michael Merritt and his wife Lindsey and their soon to be new son, infant Emerson Michael Merritt; sisters, Nettie Lambert and Georgia Ann Boykin; brother, Robert Merritt; and several other relatives and wonderful friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd. Jacksonville, FL. 32211. Graveside funeral service with military honors will be in the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd., Jacksonville, FL. at 10:00 am Friday, November 27, 2015 with Rev. William Crook officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Michael’s name to the Kernan Blvd. Baptist Church, 4000 Kernan Blvd. S., Jacksonville, FL. 32224.
