Born near Earlham on Oct. 10, 1934, she was the daughter of Oren B. and Pearle (Gingery) Hadley. She attended Earlham School and received degrees from Drake University and the University of Wisconsin.
A professor of English at Iowa State University in Ames, Miss Hadley was well known as co-author of numerous young adult novels under the pen name of Hadley Irwin. Her 20-year collaboration with Ann Irwin began when they met as members of ISU's English department. Not only did they teach courses together and write together, but for years they spoke with public school students throughout the country and keynoted many English teachers' and librarians' professional associations.
Miss Hadley was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Survivors include her sister, Mildred H. Rich of Oskaloosa, and several nieces and nephews.
