Frances Caroline Dabney, youngest daughter of Charles William Dabney, Sr. and the former Miss Frances Alsop Pomeroy, was born in the bounds of Fayal, Azores in Portugal on November 26th 1833. Her father was the U.S. Consulate and a leading shipping merchant.

Known as Fan, she married George Stewart Johonnot Oliver on December 8th 1859.

George and Fan Oliver lived in The Azores; where George ran the Dabney shipping & trade business until about 1880. They then retired to Southern California near Santa Barbara.
