Deana Bowers Searles, age 74, passed away in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center. She was born August 16, 1938 in Fort Worth, Texas. A devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. Deana was an elementary school teacher and taught at St. Luke's Episcopal School for 32 years, retiring in 2005. Teaching second grade was a real joy for her, and she loved visiting with her former students when they returned for reunions. She was preceded in death by her parents Elsie M. and Dean E. Bowers of Thurber, Texas. She is survived by her husband of 51 years Richard Jesse Searles, Jr., son Richard Dean Searles and wife Isabel of Mountain Brook, Alabama; daughter Amy Beth Searles Karam and husband Hab; four grandchildren Benjamin Habib Karam, Mary Katherine Karam, Sarah Elizabeth Karam, and Daniel Bowers Karam, all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and sister Judy Beth Bowers of Houston, Texas. She was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church where she served as a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, Altar Committee, and The Saints Alive Choir. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the Broadmoor Homeowners Association Board of Directors. Visitation will be from 6pm to 8pm on Monday, April 8th at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Boulevard. Visitation at Broadmoor United Methodist Church will be from 10:00am until service at 11:00am, April 9th, conducted by Reverend Ken Carroll. Interment will follow service at Greenoaks Cemetery, 9595 Florida Boulevard. Reception will follow graveside service in Room 101 of the Adult Education Building at Broadmoor United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Chuck Anderson, Hilary Lantz, Jim Miller, James Pelton, Charles Shea, and John Walker and honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Habib Karam and Daniel Bowers Karam. Donations can be made to Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Mollylea Dr., Baton Rouge, LA and St. Luke's Episcopal School, 8833 Broadmoor Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA, 70806.
