Left hometown on February 3, 1943 to enter service with the U.S. Army Air Forces at the induction center at Ft Sheridan, IL. Attended basic training at St. Petersburg, FL. Stationed at the Alexandria Louisiana Airfield until December 1944, when he was transferred to the U.S. Army. After Infantry training at Camp Howze, TX, departed the U.S. for the European Theater of Operation in February 1945. Assigned to Company L, 3rd Battalion, 47th Infantry regiment, 9th Infantry division/ Killed in action near Frankfort, Germany on March 17, 1945; 2 days after entering combat. Later buried with Military honors at Elmwood Cemetery in his hometown. Also honored at WWII Memorial in the same cemetery. (courtesy of [email protected])
