SMsgt. Ray Kuykendall (Ret.) passed away August 26 after an heroic 5 year struggle with ALS in Waco, TX. He was always an inspiration to everyone and maintained a smile and a look of peace in spite of the difficulties of living with ALS.

Ray was the youngest child of Frank and Carrie (Mickey) Kuykendall.

He grew up in the Fairfield area, graduating from Fairfield High School in 1961. Ray followed his two older brothers into military service shortly after high school graduation; enlisting in the USAF where he served for 28 years. After basic training at Lackland AFB, TX, he was stationed at James Connolly AFB in Waco, TX. It was there that he met the former Janeth Willis and they were married on December 21, 1963. Ray's career included assignments in Texas, Virginia, Missouri, Delaware, and Utah. Overseas stations included Taiwan, Korea, the US Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand and the US Embassy in Bern, Switzerland. Ray received many honors and awards during his AF career. He retired on July 31, 1989.

In February 1990, Ray began a 12-year civilian career at Hill AFB, Utah. He retired in March 2002 due to his illness.

Ray attended The Church at Tree Lake in China Spring where he received much love and support from the family of believers.

Ray is survived by his devoted wife of almost 43 years, Jan; daughter Sheri and husband Bryan of Salt Lake City, UT; sons, Christopher of Tempe, AZ and Patrick of Ogden, UT; brothers, Norman and wife Nancy of Chambersburg; Kenneth and wife Sandra of Chesapeake, VA; sister Joyce Corl and husband Chip of Fairfield; mother-in-law, Louise Willis of Waco; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law Judy and Scott Lloyd of Waco and Monty Willis of Cleburne; also many loving nieces and nephews.

Interment with full military honors was at Rosemound Cemetery.

"And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast."
