This gentleman's gg grandson, Jim Shaw, has solved the mystery on Thomas Jefferson's father. It was found on www.wvculture.org and reads as follows:
Holley, Thomas died May 7 1858 Bowman WV) (from) consumption (informant) Isabel Holley-the children went on & spelled it Halley.
Pa death certificate confirms this burial, parents, & marriage
His father is Thomas Halley
In 1870 Census, he & his brother are found with his mother & her 2nd husband Abraham Grindle.
He & Carrie were the parents of 10 children & 8 were living in 1900:
Charles, Bessie,
J. Thomas, Harriett,
Clara, May,
Ralph & Josephine

Thomas was a retired policeman
