Funeral services for Spurgeon (S.H.) Burdine will be held Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden, Louisiana with Pastor Trey Waller, Rev. Steve Richardson and Irene Agnew officiating. Interment will follow at Gilgal Cemetery in Minden, Louisiana. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden

Spurgeon was born August 6, 1923 in Atlanta, Arkansas to Donnie Hare Burdine and Carl Burdine who preceded him in death. He entered into rest November 20, 2015 in Minden, Louisiana. Spurgeon graduated from Haynesville High School in 1942, He was a veteran, having proudly served 3 ½ years in the United States Coast Guard. He went to work for DuPont at age 25 and retired from there at age 62. Upon retirement he moved to Minden, Louisiana. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, still hunting and fishing into his 90’s. He loved doing work with his Kubota tractor. He enjoyed playing dominos (especially winning). He always had a joke to tell before a family gathering started. Spurgeon was an active member of Gilgal Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 50 years Nelwyn Elkins Burdine and Maxine Cole Burdine wife of 11 years, son Ronald Wayne Burdine, grandson Brian Burdine, and brother Raymond Burdine.

He is survived by granddaughters: Amy Burdine Mitchell and husband Shawn, Jenny Burdine Davies and husband Matthew, great-granddaughters: Morgan, Lila and Isabella, great-grandson: Waylon, stepson: Tim Cole and wife Lisa, stepdaughter: Martha McGrew, step-grandsons: Thomas and Phillip Cole, step-granddaughters: Sarah and Hannah McGrew and husband Agustin, brother: Carlis Burdine, sister: Glovania Burdine McRae, numerous nieces and nephews and special caregiver Irene Agnew
