In 1900, he was living with his parents and siblings in Goshen Township. In 1910, he was a "machine hand" for a sash and door company, living in Edgewood, Siskiyou County, California. By 1920, he had moved to Oakland, California, was living with his wife, Leona May (nee Sackett), and two children, Ebben Lowell and Inze Luverne. By 1930 he and his family had moved to Los Angeles. Based on 1940 census records, in 1935 the family was living in Montebello, California, but by 1940 Leona and the children had moved to Santa Maria, California, without Ebben.
Ebben's World War II draft registration indicates that he was living and working at Camp White, a US Military training camp located in the desert near Medford, Oregon. His residence was care of his mother in Montebello, California.

He was crossing the street at Olympic Blvd. and Esperanza St. when hit by a car driven by Harold E. Swafford, 1023 S. Alma St. The impact tossed him in the path of a machine driven by Wiltson D. Bailey Jr., 2309 Westview Blvd. Neither was held . . . .
