Mr. Henson Perrymore Barnes, of Raleigh, formerly of Goldsboro and White Lake, NC; died Sunday in Raleigh, NC.

Mr. Barnes, born in Bladen County, was the son of the late Laton L. Barnes and Mable Cumbee Barnes and the widower of Mary Catherine "Kitty" Allen Barnes.

Mr. Barnes was a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received his Juris Doctor in 1961. He was the founding member of the law firm of Haithcock, Barfield, Hulse & Kinsey, PLLC in Goldsboro. He served the Goldsboro and Wayne County community in many civic capacities before being elected to the NC House of Representatives in 1974. In 1976 he was elected to the NC Senate, and represented Wayne and Greene Counties in the Senate until 1992. From 1988 until 1992 he served as President Pro Tempore for the North Carolina Senate. While in the Senate, Barnes sponsored bills that expanded the number of parks under the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation, increased the pay of Public School teachers, and provided for Interstate I-795 in Wayne and Wilson Counties.

Mr. Branes is survived by his daughters, Rebecca B. Kinsey and husband Jay of Goldsboro, NC; and Amy B. Patrick and husband Ray of Raleigh, NC. and three grandchildren, John Kinsey III, Jonathan Babb, Jr. and Brooke Babb.

The family received friends at 9:30 AM, in the Church Fellowship Hall, till service time.

A memorial service was held at 11 AM, Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Goldsboro, 125 South John Street, with the Rev. Dr. Glenn Phillips, Jr. officiating.

Graveside services were held at 3 PM, Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Beard's Chapel Cemetery, 7626 US Hwy.701 N. White Lake, NC with the Rev. Dr. David Elks officiating.

Burial was made in the cemetery.

The Carter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Mr. Branes.
