Joy R. Dunn, 79, a longtime resident of Alamogordo, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, in Granbury, Texas.

Joy was born March 24, 1917, in Pierce, Ariz., to Cicero and Mamie (Rand) Kennedy. She was the former owner and operator of the Ideal Beauty Shop in Alamogordo, and had been a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Alamogordo and Acton Baptist Church in Acton, Texas.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Thurman Dunn, of the family home; a daughter, Patsy Dunn and her husband Bill, of Granbury, Texas; two sons, Stan Dunn and his wife Karen, of Aurora, Colo., and Melvin Dunn and his wife Mary B., of Midland, Texas; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Neti Schanwald, Sue Burnett and Laura Schanwald, all of Albuquerque; and two brothers, Percy Kennedy of Rimrock, Ariz., and Vernon Kennedy of Mesa, Ariz.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in the Hamilton-O1Dell Chapel with the Rev. Arthur Dunn officiating.

Interment will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Warren Naugle, Ray Bowerman, John Donnelly, Fred Martin, Hoy Wesley, Al Kuhn and Ted Harrington.
