David Crider was born about 1828 in Virginia. His wife was Catherine Krider, whose parent were John and Sarah Baker Krider from Rowan County North Carolina. Their Children were Sarah, George, Mary, Louisa and John. The Crider family lived on a farm, part of which was located in Gasconade Township in Wright County. According to family stories, David fought in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, he was wounded and crippled. After the war, in 1865, four men with hoods over their heads, rode up on horses, call David out, shot and killed him. After David's death, Catherine and children moved to Howell County, Missouri. Catherine was back in Wright County by 1880. Family members believed David and Catherine to be buried in New Grove Cemetery. (It was the closest cemetery to their farm). Their graves are unmarked.
This account of the life of David Crider was published in the The Mansfield Mirror-Republican newspaper, June 18, 1992. It was submitted by James Crider. James is a descendant of David's son George Crider 1847-1926
