Obituary:
Rodney LaRon Covington, born to Hickman and Brenda (Johnson) Covington on November 27, 1966, departed this life on Friday, November 13, 2015. He was the grandson of Rhuel and the late, Elder Lorenzo Johnson, and the late, Hickman, Sr. and Mamie Covington.

Rodney received Christ as his personal savior at an early age at Pentecostal Tabernacle, under Dr. Jonathan Greer. At the age of eighteen, he “found himself" as the Assistant Minister of Music. He later joined Born Again Church in 1991 and worked full time as the Vocal Coordinator for the music department, which kept him hard at work teaching and training the voices of five (5) choirs and two (2) worship teams.

Rodney received his education in the metro public school system. His musical ability was first recognized at the age of three when he was given a drum set by his parents. As he grew into adolescence, he began to explore other musical talents stirring within. In junior high school he played concert piano. Under the tutelage of his junior high school music teacher, he began to play other instruments including the flute, alto and tenor saxophone, trumpet, clarinet, baritone horn, and trombone. He had two years of intense vocal training at Blair School of Music (Vanderbilt University). He also studied under the guided hands of Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark and many other notable directors.

At the age of twenty-three he was able to work full time in the music industry as a session/background singer, which broadened his list of notable singers and performers with whom he sang with and/or directed for. This minstrel's talent merited him spots on stage, television, commercials, international tours, albums, and not to mention, the many churches that have been blessed through the workshops and concerts of this anointed ministering gift. He sang with and occasionally directed the Bobby Jones' Super Choir. Rodney received many certificates and awards for his excellence in music and vocal performances.

Rodney also furthered his education at Volunteer Beauty Academy, and he excelled as a master hair stylist to many individuals.

Preceding in death was his father, Hickman Covington and sister, Stacey Covington. He leaves to cherish his memories, mother, Brenda Covington; grandmother, Rhuel Johnson; four aunts, Mary Boyd, Jackie (Howard) Nichols, Rosie Anglin and Martha Hayes; three uncles, Chris (Monique)Johnson, Robert Leon (Irene) Covington and James Covington; devoted cousin, Pamela Dozier; and a host of very close cousins; devoted friends, Lamont (Denotra)Sneed, Greg Herriman and Henry Thomas.
