John B. Mahaffey age 94 of San Antonio went to Heaven on Monday, November 23, 2015.

He was born in Fort Worth, TX on July 12, 1921 to Homer and Esther (Clemmons) Mahaffey.

He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps just after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and proudly served overseas in the Pacific Theater in WWII.

After returning, he married Bobbie Ruth Bass and together had 4 children.

He was a lover of Country Music and after moving to San Antonio in the 1960's formed a Country and Western Band and became known as "Cactus Jack". Their band – Jack and the Country Classics entertained the locals for many years. Later on, he and fellow musicians entertained at nursing homes and senior activity centers. He really had a passion for music and bringing that passion to others.

Another passion of Jack's was that he was a storyteller and wrote over 100 stories that were published in the Wilson County News. His family is blessed by the fact that they have copies of those stories to relive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Homer, Jr. and Kenneth and Kenneth's wife, Velma; his grandson, Jonathan Mahaffey; his former wife, Beth (Houser) Mahaffey; brother-in-law, Johnny Steward.

He is survived by his son, John B. Mahaffey, Jr. and wife, Annette; daughters, Connie Ruth Bass, Bobbye Jean Hansen and husband, Mickey and Sandy Kay Grosse and husband, Brock; grandchildren, Rachael Mahaffey and husband, Andrew Childers, Faith Mahaffey, William Bass and wife, Michelle, Julia Rogers, Ryan Padalecki and wife, Angela, Lora Andrews and husband, John, Dustin Grosse and Sumer Gilbert and husband, Trey; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Gene Steward; and numerous nieces and nephews.

SERVICES
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Drive. A Graveside Service will be at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cumby, Texas.
