Moved to Burlington in 1850, and graduated from Burlington high school. Board of alderman 1874- 1875 and 1886 -1887. In 1892, EM Sutton was appointed United States inspector of Chinese immigration, which he filled until 1897. In 1898, he was elected may or burlington, and in 1902 a Vermont State senator.
