He was married 1st on December 19, 1866 in Cheatham County to Elizabeth C Newsom (1846-1870). He was married 2nd about 1873 to Tennessee "Tennie" Jordan (1854-1919).
Francis passed away on March 12, 1921 in Davidson County and was buried at home in what later became known as the Francis B Hows Cemetery.
