Funeral service for Lenora George Whitesell, 86, who passed away peacefully January 1, 2012, will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm at the Dale Woodward Funeral Home, 167 Ridgewood Ave. Holly Hill with Rev. Mary McKee, pastor of Christ Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow. Friends wishing to call and pay their respects may do so Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. Mrs. Whitesell or Lee has she was known to those close to her, was born in Akers, Missouri, daughter of Jess George and Nellie Garman George. In younger days, many called her "Georgie". Before moving to California, she was a resident of Shockney Dr. in Ormond Beach. She began her working career as a register nurse at Chicago Hope during World War II. She later became a stewardess for American Overseas Airlines and Pan Am. In 1953, she married Bill Whitesell, a pilot for Pan Am and later Eastern Air Lines. Lee worked at Daytona Beach airport as a volunteer information guide and at Humana Hospital for many years. She was an active member of Christ Presbyterian Church from 1975-2009. Mrs. Whitesell was predeceased by her husband in 1990 and a son, Bruce in 1984. She is survived by son, Jeffrey H. Whitesell; two daughters, Cynthia L. Luznar (Ed) and Debra A. White (David). In lieu of other remembrances the family suggests donations be made to either American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association . Condolences may be shared at www.dalewoodwardfuneralhomes.com
